Christopher Colombus was a spanish conquistador from Italy who in 1492 set out to find a quick route to India for trade. He was provided with three ships, "The Santa Maria", "La Pinta", and "The Mayflower". When he stumbled upon North America, he thought he had arrived in India when he met the native americans. Assuming he was in India; Colombus dubed them "indians".
